Overall, If you enjoy action platformers and want a bit of a challenge. There are even some collectible weapons that you can use to change up the gameplay a bit and give it some added replayability. I really had a blast playing through it a second time on the harder difficulty you unlock after your first run through and had even more fun speedrunning it after that. But the real value in it, for me at least, is the replayability. This isn’t a long game at all, you can beat it in about 5 or 6 hours, little more if you try and collect everything. If you want to see something truly impressive just take a look at some of the videos of speedrunners burning through the levels that consistently obliterate you. It was aggravating, infuriating, super difficult, and immensly fun. And while I didn’t expect it, I actually began to speedrun the game trying to clear it as fast as I possibly could. But once you pour some time into it and really get used to the gameplay mechanics, things start to slow down and the game becomes this wonderful series of strategic choices that you can make on the fly. You have no health, so if you get hit once… that’s it. This is especially true on the harder difficulty which really tests your mettle and throws a few new enemies at you (and a crap ton of regular enemies too!). I did feel like at certain times I was fighting the controls a bit but overall it was just an immensely enjoyable experience and once I really put some time in I got the hang of it and it became even more fun to play. And above all, the gameplay is fast, smooth, and so so satisfying when you master the mechanics. The music, the story, the pixel art… it’s all fantastic. And above all, the gameplay is fast, smooth, and so so Man what a fantastic game.
